Hello from the Green Ranger Safaris team. We promised you day two photos of the Masai Mara birds. All these were taken over the weekend, and we had to deliver.
Day two was just as good a day for those of us who love birds as day one. We saw an even greater number of birds than we did the day before since we had a full day game drive. Here are some of the beauties we spotted…
Masai Mara Birds
We managed to spot this Temminck’s Courser… first time for me – seeing this beauty in the wild 🙂
And then we saw this Steppe Eagle trying to catch some small creature in the grass …
This bird is a common sighting in almost all parks in Kenya – this is the Crested Crane, or others may prefer the Crowned Crane.
Of course, the Ostrich is on the list of birds at the Mara … they are quite common here. This is a male… They are usually the ones with the black feathers.
The Ostrich we spotted above was in an area near this lone egg… Strange to see a single egg so much in the open… but then again, since when did nature always do what you expected it to?
We loved this spotting of a White-Bellied Bustard … what a beaut 🙂
This was personally my favorite bird spotting of the entire trip… A Meyer’s Parrot – I think…Or maybe a Brown Parrot… Very beautiful. We spotted several of them on a tree and spent some time watching them … Another first for me…
Check out this Yellow-Billed Ox-Pecker comfortably seated on the buffalo’s back…
Another awesome spotting was this one of a couple of Eagles who were nice enough to pose for this photo 🙂
Another Eagle, the African Hawk Eagle, who was on a tree just a few meters from the couple in the other photo… Don’t you just love Eagles? Magnificent creatures.
This is a Purple Grenadier female … the males are a beautiful purple color. We spotted a male nearby but he flew off before I could get a clear shot of him… So I settled for the female – who is also quite a beauty herself 🙂
And then we spotted this other beauty … I’ll update this post with its name once I figure it out 🙂 I definitely think this is some kind of sparrow or weaver … If you have figured it out before me – please comment on this post and let me know… 🙂
And last but not least, we have this face-off between a Golden Weaver at the top, and a Superb Starling below… Of course, the Starling is a bully and never lets the Weaver have any snacks to himself. They are quite interesting to watch
In conclusion
So that was day two at the Mara, and also the last day 🙁 Its never nice leaving the Mara, but we gotta get back to the grind… bills gotta get paid. I will be sharing the photos of the animals we saw during the entire trip – so stay in touch. Until tomorrow, we wish you a lovely day and hope you enjoyed our photos of the Masai Mara birds … I hope we are getting better photography-wise … time will tell…
Later people! Cheers 🙂
